The platform Tanzania Trade Portal which was launched on 08th July, 2021 provides detailed information on the procedures for import and export of specific commodities. Through the portal, users will find out which procedures they must complete; learn exactly how to obtain preliminary licences and registrations, mandatory permits and certificates; as well as how to have goods processed and cleared by the Customs Administration.

Effective 20th January 2025, the New Tanzania Customs Integrated System (NTANCIS) requires all import manifests classified under “IMPORT” to include the Consignee’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). This requirement is part of an initiative to improve data accuracy, streamline customs processing, and enhance integration between shipping lines and Customs brokers.

Import containers must be cleared within 7 days for reefers and 14 days for dry containers after being discharged or they are subject to a demurrage and detention tariff. Import cargo is released on presentation of original bills of lading, duly signed container guarantee forms and payment of local charges.
